    Bio

Nate Drew's high school voted him least likely to succeed. He grew up around serious artists, liked rock and roll better, and got into art school in Virginia anyway. Tattooing started the way it should: he drove past a shop with a help-wanted sign and walked in. He apprenticed under Tony Olivas and cut his teeth in Richmond, helping run that city's convention.

In the mid-nineties he came to Salt Lake for his brother's wedding and brought his gear, because the art students wanted tattoos. The city had three tattoo shops. Nate saw a generation of hardcore kids who wanted big, bold work, which is what he did best. In 1997 he opened Lost Art on State Street.

Almost thirty years later the scene is a different animal, and Nate had a hand in that, though he won't take the credit. In 2004 he co-founded the Salt Lake City Tattoo Expo, which now packs the Salt Palace with artists from all over the world. His pitch hasn't changed: "You don't have to go to Switzerland. You can come here and find someone that's amazing."

Neither have the rules: respect the craft, respect the client, don't fall for gimmicks. Nate is still here and still tattooing: a handful of select clients and the projects he wants to do. He's in town most days. Want in? Call the shop.

I'm blessed with the honor to take part in the MAGIC of TATTOO with U.

Are you in search of; healing, empowering, growing, protecting, or memorializing, in the form of adorning a talisman or motif of your liking, permanently! Then look no further!

Alex Hall has been tattooing professionally since 2012 and has been a core member of the Lost Art family since 2014. Not only is he one of the kindest and most generous people you could meet but also a down to earth tattooer with strong moral ethics and unreal talent to boot. He specializes in Traditional American and Japanese styles, but is versatile in many other styles of tattooing as well and would love to help you find what's best for you. Thanks for joining us at our Temple of Lost Art Tattoo.

  • Taylor Shaw

    Taylor Shaw

@tshawrk Book with Taylor or call the shop
    Bio

Taylor Shaw is Salt Lake City through and through. He grew up here and learned the trade at Lost Art as Nate Drew's last apprentice, making him the final link in a line of tattooers Nate has trained since 1997. He's been tattooing for more than ten years now and is one of the shop's lead artists.

Taylor's work leans bold and traditional: heavy lines, saturated color, and floral pieces that still look good years later. He takes on almost every style, though, and clients keep coming back for the way he turns a rough idea into something better than they pictured.

Outside the shop, he's all about family, and his family's roots run deep at Alta. You'll recognize him by the cowboy hat.

  • Aaron Wilkinson

    Aaron Wilkinson

@a.wilkinsontattoo Book with Aaron or call the shop
    Bio

Aaron Wilkinson tattoos like the old times. Same reason rock and roll and the blues never went out of style: it's straightforward, and it always hits. Bold lines, solid color, black where it counts, built to look just as good in twenty years. Panthers, eagles, skulls, cowboys, the occasional monster. No bullshit, no trends.

That said, bring him anything. Traditional is the foundation, not the limit. Hand him your idea, your reference, or the thing you drew on a napkin, and he'll turn it into a tattoo that holds up.

He loves motorcycles, grew up in the skateboard scene, and has always been the homie of the shop: the guy you end up talking to while you wait, and the guy you book with after.

Call the shop, or DM him, to book.

  • Leslie Lytle

    Leslie Lytle

@daggerandbee Book with Leslie or call the shop
    Bio

Leslie Lytle tattoos at Lost Art. Her work runs classic: koi, roses, cherubs, daggers, skulls, a revolver with a name over it, in clean black and grey or solid color.

Her own instructions are the best ones: call the shop or stop on by.

  • Bree

    Bree

@fringeprint Book with Bree or call the shop
    Bio

Bree is the newest tattooer at Lost Art, and black and grey is her language: skulls, snakes, chrysanthemums, script, and ornamental work that wraps a whole arm. When she's not tattooing, she paints.

Book through the shop, or online at fringeprinttattoo.square.site.

Duke is the shop dog and Nate's best friend. If you see Duke, Nate is around: usually sitting at the front of the shop, or out around the block. Spot Duke and you can catch Nate.

Pricing

Tattoos are individually priced based on size, detail, and placement. Shop minimum is $100. Cash preferred; there's an ATM in the lobby. Card and Venmo are usually accepted.

After your tattoo

Aftercare

  • Leave the bandage on as long as your artist told you.
  • Wash with clean hands, mild unscented soap, and lukewarm water. Pat dry with a clean paper towel.
  • Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion or the ointment your artist recommends. Thin is enough.
  • Keep it out of the sun. No pools, hot tubs, lakes, or baths until it's healed.
  • Don't pick or scratch. Light flaking and peeling are normal.
  • Wear loose, clean clothing over it.
  • Expect two to four weeks to heal on the surface.
  • Spreading redness, heat, swelling, pus, or fever: call the shop and see a doctor.
